The best paper may be eligible to receive the ACUHO-I Adden Scholarship.Interested members should submit a brief abstract which outlines the content of their proposed paper along with a short statement addressing the Adden Scholarship Criteria. Please note we have a limited number of time slots available for members papers, so presentations must not exceed 40 minutes.Adden ScholarshipThe Adden Scholarship is provided to AACUHO members, who are also ACUHO-I members for presentation of the best member paper at the annual AACUHO conference. The successful recipient will receive $900 USD toward the registration fee for attending the ACUHO-I conference in the United States, where they must present the same paper. Criteria and SelectionAdden Scholarship recipients must be prepared to present their paper as part of the "Regional Best" series at the ACUHO-I conference in the following year. The successful award recipient will be selected based on conference delegate feedback; relevance of the topic to conference theme and modern practice; presentation style and ability; adaptability to other housing operations and; by endorsement from the AACUHO conference organising committee.The conference committee's decision regarding acceptance or otherwise of a submission is final. Shared Session StreamsShared session streams take place during the conference and are a shared presentation within a 50 minute time slot. Each individual panel member, of whom there are three(ideally), would share their ideas for 10 minutes to allow discussion time for the entire group at the end. The sessions are designed to be interactive, informal and generate discussion. The panel sessions will be chaired by a member of the organising committee. The three streams on offer are Leadership and Resilience, Pastoral Care, Support and the Student Experience and support and Housing/Business Operations. Some suggested topics are: •Best Practice in environmental practices in residences (recycling, sustainable practices particularly in expansion of residences) •Mental Health •Crisis management eg pandemics, disaster planning •First year experience or student experience in general •Social networking, use of facebook and other social media for effective communication with students •An overall update on the Higher Education environment, given that in Australia the landscape will change from 2012•An overall update on the New Zealand Higher Education environment •Changing demographics of students in residence – impact on pastoral care, social events etc •Creative solutions for the ever increasing demand for student housing when there is limited capacity and a rental shortage •Discipline/Behaviour Models•Leadership programs for residents not Resident Staff •Professional development of Res Staff teams •Wider community interaction We would love to hear from you if you have any “burning issues” which you would like to share. These concurrent sessions are fast becoming a favourite at our annual conference so please consider being part of this information sharing initiative. Ideally we would like up to 27 people to be involved on these panels so don’t be shy! You do not have to be a polished public speaker, just bring enthusiasm, ideas and a willingness to share with your colleagues.
